Nashville Scholars initiative
National data reveals a significant socioeconomic imbalance in access to elite higher education, with wealthy students disproportionately represented at selective colleges.
Nashville Scholars Initiative (NSI) addresses this inequity by empowering talented, low-income Nashville students to succeed at these institutions. NSI guides high-achieving, low-income Nashville students toward admission to—and success at—selective colleges, grounded in the belief that all talented students deserve access to top-tier institutions, regardless of financial background.
Identification & Recruitment
In collaboration with local high schools and nonprofit organizations, we identify and recruit eligible, high-achieving 10th–12th grade students—those with a 3.5+ GPA, demonstrated leadership potential, and financial need (Pell-eligible).
Leadership
We help students develop essential skills through cultural capital workshops, networking opportunities, and near-peer mentoring. Through strong partnerships with local businesses and community organizations, NSI connects students to leadership opportunities that align with their aspirations.
Curriculum
Through Saturday Seminars, Summer Programs, and individualized advising, we offer a comprehensive curriculum that guides students in high school course selection, ACT/SAT preparation, and essential skills for managing stress and building confidence.
Application & Aid Support
We guide students through the college application process (Common App, FAFSA, and CSS Profile) as well as fee waivers, funding for fly-in and campus visits, and navigating scholarships and financial aid.
