GOAL Collective will officially launch the first-ever online directory dedicated to finding adult education programs and services across Middle Tennessee (https://goalcollective.org/directory) at its annual networking luncheon on Oct. 17, 2024, from 12-2 p.m. CDT, at The Cordelle in Nashville. This tool will allow users to easily identify and connect with adult education programs that meet learners’ needs. Data on adult learners served, educational outcomes met and current waitlists will also be released at the luncheon.
At last October’s luncheon, GOAL presented data collected from its partners, revealing unmet demand for English Language Learning/English as a Second Language (ELL/ESL) classes across Middle Tennessee. For every two learners currently enrolled in an ELL program, at least one learner is on a waitlist. The current collective-wide waitlist for ELL includes over 1,400 people. As a result of these findings, the collective is advocating for greater access to ELL programs across the region. Members are building tools to assist potential learners on waitlists, but the message to policymakers and funders is clear: there should be a seat in the classroom for every learner ready to advance their skills for a better life.
The Third Annual Networking Luncheon offers a unique opportunity to share updates, celebrate achievements and address key issues in adult education. Collective partners will engage with city officials, prospective members, donors and other important stakeholders. Mayor Freddie O’Connell will provide special remarks at the start of the program. Adult learners will also share their success stories.
Associate Executive Director Dr. Ameshica Linsey said, “Our collective is essential to the advancement of adult education; together, we are ensuring equitable access to programs that empower adult learners to thrive and unlock their full potential. I am excited to continue witnessing the transformation of this space in our city.”
According to Tennessee College Access and Success Network Executive Director Bob Obrohta, “GOAL Collective shows what can be done when our community works together to address the needs of its residents. Services are provided more efficiently and effectively, and more residents receive educational services to improve their quality of life and strengthen Nashville's workforce.”
With the collective mission of tripling the number of Nashville adults achieving their educational goals by 2025, GOAL Collective serves to identify opportunities, understand barriers and make data-informed decisions around future programming and other needs for adult learners.
